It looks like Italy are in for another Eurovision win, with streams for “Brividi” by Mahmood and BLANCO in the lead on Spotify.

The annual songwriting competition from primarily European countries is airing the final this weekend (14 May) from Turin, Italy. After obtaining the most streams between March 2021 and May 2021, last year Spotify data successfully predicted Måneskin’s win, with “ZITTI E BUONI”. Can Spotify correctly once again predict this year’s Eurovision winner?

Eurovision fans love to prepare and relive the music before, during and after the final. Spotify says, during last year’s competition, streams of Eurovision-related playlists on Spotify increased by 594%, with 27 million minutes streamed.

Spotify are once again predicted another win by Italy, this year’s host country, with their submission “Brividi” by Mahmood and BLANCO seeing the most streams in the lead up to the final. “Brividi” is the most-streamed song in 28 out of 40 participating countries, after removing each country’s home entry. This would mark the second consecutive win from Italy, a feat only achieve by four countries – Spain, Luxembourg, Israel, and Ireland.

Once you get here, you realize that everything that happened before is erased because you are in a different situation and in a new context with totally different circumstances, both from Sanremo and from everything that happened before. So actually, maybe it’s better not to think about it too much and enjoy the moment.

“Brividi” is currently pulling in five times as many streams as the next most-popular entry, which is “Hold Me Closer” by Sweden’s Cornelia Jakobs.

Last year’s winners Måneskin shot to fame, seeing a 5,400% increase in international streams between January and March 2022, compared to the same period last year. Their single Beggin’ recently entering Spotify’s Billions Club. Fans aren’t contained to their home country either.
