As their name suggests, Glitchmachines can’t help but design audio tools designed to break sound up as creatively as possible. Glitchmachines Cataract 2.0 is here to help us slice multiple samples at once in an ingenious way.

Glitchmachines Cataract 2.0

In contrast to a typical sample slicer which “typically deals with recalling markers” in an audio file, Cataract 2.0 is “driven by your DAWs clock and dynamically scans over segments of up to four separate audio files across two scanners”. Segments of your audio are “distributed in time” via an internal sequencer. Furthermore, Cataract conically manipulates your audio in interesting ways via modulation sources to achieve that clean yet glitchy sound that Glitchmachiens have a reputation for.

Glitchmachines state that “multiplexer” refers to how Cataract 2.0 interacts with your samples through its internal modulation sources and sequencers.

Cataract 2.0 is a segment multiplexer plugin geared toward electronic music production and experimental sound design.

For example, Cataract 2.0 includes a dual pair of Sample Scanners; Scan Sequencers; a Global Parameter Sequencer & Effects Sequencers; both Effects & Dynamics Processors, a Global Randomizer; LFOs; and an X-MOD Morpher! That is a lot to play with.

Additionally, Glitchmachines provide a bank of both samples and 100 presets for you! Music producers inclined towards glitchy leads, percussion, and sound effects will have hours of fun with this one plugin! And, of course, you can adjust how your output works together adjusting the fade between the 2 scanner outputs. You can even modulate this fade via mapping an internal LFO to the Crossfade knob! Alternatively, you can automate it with automation clips in your DAW or sequence it from the Cataract Parameter Sequencer automated.

Cataract presents us with a plethora of tools for unique and complex sound design! Furthermore Cataract 2.0 features native Apple Silicon support. Finally, users of Cataract 1.0 will have noticed 2..0 has had an interface redesign!
